REDDAPPA NAIDU (1932-1999)
Born in Andhra Pradesh, Reddappa Naidu studied at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai. Best known for his numerous drawings of Lord Ganesha, Naidu was known for using pastel shades and fine-grained oils on canvas. His attention to detail, especially in his depictions of numerous architectural settings and monuments, is remarkable. By the 1970s, Naidu quit employing the Western impressionist style, moving instead, to a more Indian approach with generous use of India motifs. Naidu has also painted extensively on other Indian icons such as Venkateshwara and Durga as well as temples and mythology. Naidu won numerous awards and exhibited widely in India and overseas.
