Why is a cheque of Rs.2 Lakh required to open an account

The minimum monthly relationship value required is Rs.2 Lakh, which includes balances across Savings, Fixed Deposits, Investments, Insurance, Outstanding Principal on Home Loan and Citibank Demat Account. E.g. If you maintain balance of Rs.50,000 in your Citibanking Account and Fixed Deposit of Rs.1.5 Lakh, then your relationship value will be Rs.2 Lakh.

Another example - If you maintain a Fixed Deposit of Rs.1 Lakh and undertaken Investments with Citibank of Rs.1 Lakh, then also your relationship value is Rs.2 Lakh. Hence, unlike other bank, you do not need to keep idle balance in your Citibanking Account.

You can choose to invest Rs.2 Lakh provided through a cheque for an account opening, in any of the products mentioned above to maintain the requisite relationship value.

The average monthly relationship value requirement for this account is Rs.2 Lakh, which includes balances across Savings, Term Deposits, Investments, Insurance, Outstanding Principal on Home Loan and Citibank Demat Account.
