Vice Chairman - Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory, Asia Pacific, Citigroup
Pramit Jhaveri is Vice Chairman - Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory (BCMA), Asia Pacific, Citi. With 33 years of banking experience and a deep knowledge of Citi’s businesses, Pramit is responsible for enhancing key client relationships in the region to deliver Citi’s global network and solutions.
Prior to this, Pramit was Citi India CEO for close to nine years. Under his leadership, Citi India was consistently ranked as the #1 foreign bank in India and its balance sheet is now considered amongst the best performing in the Indian banking industry. Citi reported the highest net profit and CASA ratio with the largest balance sheet and had one of the lowest gross NPA’s amongst foreign banks over the past five years. During Pramit’s tenure, employee count increased to around 17,100 in March 2019 from around 7,000 in April 2010, and a number of policies and initiatives were launched in support of diversity, wellness, and work-life balance. On this higher base, employee satisfaction and management effectiveness both expanded, and female representation on the management committee, at 22 percent, is currently at its highest ever. Pramit was also Cluster Head for South Asia, with oversight of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and was part of the Asia Pacific Operating Committee.
Citi India won a number of awards under Pramit’s leadership. The institution has received repeat wins as best foreign bank and best foreign investment bank by FinanceAsia, Asiamoney, and The Asset. The Asset and Global Finance also recognized Citi as India’s best digital bank across categories.
Prior to becoming CEO in 2010, he had successfully set up and built Citi's Investment Banking business in India, and took Citi to its current leadership position, having led numerous landmark global M&A, equity and fixed income transactions. Pramit joined Citi India in 1987 as a Management Associate.
Pramit is a Director on the Global Board of U.S.-India Business Council, and Pratham Education Foundation. He is also on the Board of Trustees of India Foundation for the Arts. Pramit has a BCom degree from Sydenham College, Mumbai University. He has an MBA in Finance and Economics from the Simon School of Business, University of Rochester, USA, from which he received the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award.
