Chief Executive Officer, Citi India
Region Head South Asia
Ashu Khullar is Chief Executive Officer, Citi India and Regional Head for South Asia. Ashu is responsible for all of Citi's businesses in India and has oversight of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
In India, Citi employs approximately 23,500 people and serves close to 2.5 million customers ranging from top corporate houses, multinationals, MME’s/SME's, self-employed entrepreneurs and retail clients. Citi India has leading market shares in a number of areas in India's banking industry, including foreign exchange, investment banking, cash management, trade, credit cards, e-commerce banking and distribution of mutual funds. In addition, Citi India's network of five Citi Service Centers serves a wide spectrum of global businesses and functions in areas such as technology, analytics, risk management, operations, decision management, financial control, etc.
Ashu has worked across a number of management roles across Citi. Prior to his current role, he was Head of Capital Markets Origination (CMO) business for Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong and was responsible for origination of Citi’s Capital Markets activities across Equity, Bonds, Loans and Structured Financing. Ashu was with Citi in London till September 2017. In London, he was Co-Head of Citi’s Corporate Banking business in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) (54 presence and ~60 non-presence countries), serving 2,500 corporate, financial institution and public sector clients. Prior to this, he was Head of Corporate Banking for Central Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa (CEEMEA) where he managed a team of 250 bankers. Between 2010 and 2014, Ashu was Co-Head of EMEA Loans, Capital Markets Origination, with oversight of the Project and Infrastructure Finance business.
Ashu is a member of the Managing Committee at the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and National Executive Committee at Federation of Indian Chambers of commerce and Industry (FICCI). Ashu is also on the Global Board of Directors at US India Business Council (USIBC).
Ashu joined Citi in 1988 in India where he held the role of Senior Relationship Manager before moving to London in 1996 as a Director for Emerging Markets Structuring and Syndications. Ashu graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Commerce from The Shriram College of Commerce, University of Delhi and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
